Tree Trimming for Safety
Each year, ERMU field staff and contractors trim tree branches to reduce the chances of interference with power lines, which can cause outages and dangerous situations.
The work is typically done in the winter, after the leaves have fallen, because it is easier to see the structure of each branch and make minimal cuts. The cold temperatures help prevent diseases and parasites from entering freshly cut limbs.
Regular maintenance of the electric system, including tree trimming, supports ERMU's commitment to excellence in reliability and culture of prioritizing safety for our employees, customers, and the general public.
If you see a branch close to a power line, please avoid trimming it yourself. Instead, contact ERMU for a safe, professional assessment and guidance on next steps, including any customer responsibilities.
Free Wood Chips
Routine tree trimming helps reduce the risk of trees and branches interfering with power lines and supports reliable electric service. As part of this maintenance, wood chips may be available for delivery upon request within ERMU’s service territory. DELIVERY DETAILS
- Minimum one full truck required, approximately 6-7 cubic yards.
- Wood chip mix includes ground up tree wood, bark, needles, and leaves.
- We only deliver wood chips to private property in our service territory.
- We only deliver wood chips where there is adequate truck access.
