Save Money Two Ways
Appliances that are ENERGY STAR® rated save you money in two ways: They use less energy and they may qualify for rebates from ERMU. By purchasing energy efficient appliances, you’ll conserve natural resources by using less energy and less water, which helps to reduce long-term utility rates and control energy costs.
ENERGY STAR® appliances may cost more, but they’re worth it. The additional cost is quickly recouped with applicable rebates and energy savings. Look for products with the ENERGY STAR® logo to be sure that all your electric appliances are energy efficient and ENERGY STAR® certified.
How to apply for a rebate
- Purchase qualifying equipment.
- Complete the Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate application.
- Include a copy of the original sales receipt and/or invoice for each product.
- Include a copy of the energy guide label containing ENERGY STAR® symbol or denotation if applicable or an AHRI Certifcation of Product Ratings.
- Submit the completed rebate application and a copy of the required documents listed above to ERMU by mail, in person, or electronically on our website.
The rebate will be processed in the form of a credit on your electric utility bill. Applicant must be an ERMU electric customer to qualify.
APPLIANCES
ERMU offers a rebate of $30 per ENERGY STAR® certified dehumidifier.
The following heat pump water heaters with a 2.0 energy factor (E.F.) or higher qualify for rebates:
- 50-gallon ($400)
- 80-gallon ($450)
ERMU offers up to a $200 rebate for variable speed pool pumps with an energy factor (E.F.) greater than 3.8.
ENERGY STAR® refrigerators and freezers qualify for a $100 rebate from ERMU only if you recycle your old working unit. New refrigerators or freezers purchased without recycling are no longer eligible for a rebate. Your receipt must indicate that the old unit was hauled away for recycling. Refrigerator must be 14 cubic feet or larger to qualify for the rebate.
If you have an old refrigerator or freezer, ERMU will pay $100 to recycle it. You cannot combine this rebate with the new refrigerator/freezer purchase, and the refrigerator or freezer must be working at the time of recycling. Units that have been sold or donated do not qualify; you must provide a receipt with proof of recycling.
