Water Conservation Resources
The average family of four in the United States uses 400 gallons of water every day, the equivalent of ten baths. Less than one percent of the earth’s water is available for human use. As the world’s population grows, it’s more important than ever that we take time to learn about our water and how to use it wisely.

ERMU provides information, resources, and rebates to assist you in your water conservation efforts.
WATERING RESTRICTIONS
Pursuant to its authority under Section 78-51 of the City of Elk River Code of Ordinances, the Board of Commissioners has adopted the following water use restrictions for residents on our city water system:
Irrigation Usage
- No sprinkling allowed between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. – Lawn sprinkling is not allowed on any day between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. This is the hottest part of the day and most water is lost to evaporation.
- Odd/even sprinkling days – If your address is an even number, you can water your lawn on even numbered days. If your address is an odd number, you can sprinkle on odd numbered days.
Exceptions
- Private wells
These permanent restrictions on lawn sprinkling have been put in place to help ensure adequate water supplies to meet the health, safety, and welfare needs of our community.
